Predictors of vaccine uptake in New York State
This project is an exploratory data article I completed as part of an internship with a Montreal public health analytics company. Here, we use demographic predictors, census data, and exemption history in public and private schools to assess patterns of medical and elective pediatric vaccine exemption in New York State, and how it correlated with covid-19 vaccine uptake among county populations. Understanding the causes and correlates with low vaccination rates can inform spatial risks of disease outbreaks, and was a topic of interest during the pandemic.

For this project, I used R Shiny supplemented with custom HTML and CSS to mimic the “scrollytelling” data article format that has been popularized by large data journalism agencies in recent years.
